Name the thing you actually observed
A mention means the answer contains a brand or product name. A citation means it links to a source. A traditional search position describes where a result appeared for a recorded query and context. Treating these as the same measure makes a report difficult to reproduce.
Choose a small set of business-relevant questions and record the exact wording. Separate branded questions from unbranded supplier or informational questions. A query asking about your company by name does not test the same discovery task as an unbranded question.
Keep the evidence with the observation
Record date, engine, interface or model label when visible, account state, displayed location and the answer or screenshot reference. Write down whether browsing or search was enabled if the interface shows that. Keep cited URLs separately from URLs you added yourself.
Repeat selected observations at planned intervals rather than choosing only a favourable result. When results differ, retain both. Do not represent a search link or a button opening an assistant as a stored answer from that assistant.
Connect observations to business outcomes carefully
Google’s AI search guide places crawlability, useful content and technical clarity within established search work. Webmaster reporting can provide additional information when available to your verified account. Read the current report definitions rather than treating every dashboard count as a conventional ranking.
Track completed relevant enquiries separately from assistant mentions. A visitor may reach a page without disclosing the question they asked. Sparse data, account context and changing answers limit the conclusions you can draw.
An honest way to describe a portfolio result
SGE Academy is an international UAE teacher-development project in PCube’s portfolio. The owner reports visibility for “best teacher coach in UAE” and mentions across AI assistants. The portfolio distinguishes that report from independently measured evidence and links to current discovery destinations.
A dated screenshot can support a specific observation once its prompt and context are recorded. It should not be expanded into a number-one ranking, a universal recommendation or an attribution of traffic to a project without the corresponding evidence.
Useful questions
Does a Google search link prove a ranking?
No. It opens current results, which may differ by time, location and account context. A recorded ranking needs dated query and result evidence.
Does publishing a research guide guarantee backlinks?
No. Original, useful resources can give others a reason to cite them, but editorial links and AI citations are controlled by third parties.
